Citizen’s conversation on the chilling phenomenon of Femicide

Democracy Development Program in partnership with Diakonia Council of Churches hosted a very engaging public Femicide Forum to discuss this issue and attempt to create meaningful steps towards awareness-building to curb future violence.

The objective of this forum was to connect and activate civil society members to seek change in society concerning femicide and issues relating to violence. This objective is to be achieved through gathering organizations that deal with gender-based violence, community-based organizations, religious leaders, political leaders, media representatives and ordinary community members.

The Forum was held at Diakonia Center in Durban on the 14 June 2018. Leading the conversation was Founder of Female President Nonkululeko Hlongwane. Experts were Scholar and political analyst Lukhona Mnguni from UKZN and Zanele Ncwane KZN Manger for the Commission for Gender Equality.

Organizations that deal with gender-based violence, community-based organizations, religious leaders, political leaders, media representatives and ordinary community members attended the Forum and came up with ideas of how the entire society can deal with this predicament.

engagement in the room saw individuals mentioning the different interventions that they seek to hold in their communities and better the ones that they are currently working with to tackle the issues of femicide and gender-based violence in their respective societies.
