The DDP Civic Education Program formerly know as the Train the Trainer program has over the years seen more than 40 dialogues conducted per year, in different communities in and around the KwaZulu Natal region.
The aim of this program is to capacitate different facilitators from different communities to be able to mobilize and educate citizens by creating, facilitating and fostering spaces for critical dialogues and change in their communities. In 2018, this program trained more than 20 facilitators, from different communities like, KwaMakhutha, Inanda, Pietermaritzburg, Engonyameni, Ntuzuma, KwaMashu, Durban Central, to name a few.
Since the beginning of 2019, this program has already delivered 13 dialogues in partnership with our partners such as the Door to Door Foundation, Springboard Ministries, Abahlali, Lindelani Youth Forum, Youth Inter- Active, at Richmond Farm, Bhambayi, Inanda Matikwe, Durban CBD, 1 Civic Education dialogue for the Elderly with TAFTA, 3 for the homeless youth and citizens at the Denis Hurley Center.
As an organization whose work extents over 25 years in democracy and civic education, the Democracy Development Program intends to develop a large number of active citizens who have the interest, knowledge and ability to roll-out several civic education initiatives over the course of the year 2019.
