DDP hosted a 2-day news verification workshop for community media in KwaZulu Natal at Onomo Hotel on the 16-17 April 2019.

This workshop was aimed at strengthening stakeholder relations. A very important part of this workshop was a build-up to the 2019 national elections to be held in May this year. A critical issue that journalists will have to deal with is the matter of “fake news” as they cover and report on events leading up to the elections.

The workshop targeted news editors, journalists, citizen journalists, student journalists and community media practitioners about the dangers of fake news. The ultimate benefit of the training was to ensure that journalists can identify accurate sources.

This workshop was facilitated by Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) Desiree Lebaea (Project Officer Research & Training).
