It is a well-known fact that most municipalities in the country have serious financial problems, which inter alia contribute to bad or no service delivery. The harsh reality in some towns of no water in the taps of consumers, sewerage flowing in the street and roads full of potholes paints a sad picture which causes a lot of concern among citizens. Do municipalities receive enough funding? Do they use the available financial resources in an optimal way? What role does economic growth play to support improved service delivery?
It is against this backdrop that the Democracy Development Program hosted a Virtual workshop to unpack this narrative. This workshop was delivered by Dr Dirk Brand, an experienced Lecture with a demonstrated history of working in the fields of constitutional law and public governance.
This engagement was held via zoom on the 26th August 2020.
