DDP Associate facilitator facilitating a civic education dialogue in UMlazi Township on the 29th April 2021.
Civic Education optimally educates, equips, and nurtures the communities for active citizenship in a democratic SA. The Democracy Development Program in partnership with the Centre For Community Development hosted a Civic Education Dialogue at UMlazi Township on the 29th of April 2021. This dialogue was facilitated by DDP partner and associate facilitator Msizi Khumalo and was attended by 45 community members from Wards 79, 81, and 82.
The aim of this dialogue was:
To improve understanding of the fundamental principles and values underlying democracy in a society.
To promote awareness of current issues and controversies relating to democracy.
To show participants that their participation can make difference in how democracy works in their country.
To foster justice, tolerance, and fairness.
To develop the willingness and an ability to resolve disputes and differences without resorting to violence.
To improve basic skills, including critical thinking and reasoning, communication, observation, and problem-solving.
