Adams Mission Community SOS Centre (AMCSC) is an organization based in EThekwini Municipality at Adams Mission. It was established in 2017 by a young Ntuthuko Maphumulo together with concerned college, university students, and community volunteers. Adams Mission Community SOS Centre is an active organization that focuses on youth development and empowerment. They are committed to unlocking the potential of the youth and community through innovative challenges enabling more job creation, accesses to information, upskilled youth, entrepreneurship development, skilled artists, technical & innovation skills training, and life skills.
The organization in partnership with the Democracy Development Program, Department of Social Development, SA Youth/NYDA, JCI Durban, Ndabe Dignified Funerals, and other stakeholders hosted a Youth Indaba, a youth celebration event with an aim to create a platform that will enable a youth voice to be heard, to find innovative solutions to youth-related challenges thus building future leaders. This was a platform to provide support to youth initiatives at the grassroots level. This was held on the 26th of June 2021 as an outdoor event at Hoskin Ground. This was done under the theme “: Developing Leaders for a Changing World”.
This is a first of its kind in this community and the main objective of this organization is to develop a community with young people that are active citizens and that take themselves seriously enough to participate in all developmental initiatives in the community. This was aimed at developing leaders for a changing world, instill courage and leadership for young people in this area, encouraging collaboration and mentorship between the youth and community leaders, and finding solutions to youth-related challenges in the community. The invited speakers included Mama Charlotte Maxeke’s Great Grand Daughter who is the current Principal at a local school in the area, young entrepreneurs, a representative from HARAMBEE a youth employment agency and etc.
