On 18 November DDP was proud to host the Local Government Conference. The purpose of the conference was to reflect on the 2021 Local Government Elections and to unpack the expectations placed on the local government in the post-election era.
Our guest speakers included political analyst Andile Zulu, Khanya Vilakazi (UMP) and Sthembiso Madlala (ASEFSA). The speakers gave us insight on:
Coalitions: what lessons we can learn from 2016 and the key shifts as the 2021 Local Government Election negotiations heat up;
Options for the structure of governance for administrations managed by political coalitions
The implications for civil society: where are the sites for advocacy and lobbying towards a transparent and accountable local government.
The audience was made up of individuals within civil society and political parties. They engaged in fruitful discussions with the speakers and amongst themselves in a response to the key ideas provided by the speakers. To watch the full conference, follow this link: https://youtu.be/2U-OwiPKRGs
