Being an Observer in the South African elections goes beyond democratic participation. For DDP, the observer role is the true manifestation of a healthy democracy that promotes active citizenship.

DDP’s mission has been to build strong and active communities that can hold those in power accountable. One of the ways in which we achieve this mission is through observing elections. DDP was proud to have more than 60 observers trained by DDP in collaboration the IEC for the Local Government Elections. Our observers were proud embodiment of our core values:

  • Ubuntu
  • Commitment and mutual benefit
  • Equity and respect
  • Communication
  • Accountability
  • Professionalism

Subsequently, on 23 November DDP hosted the Observer’s Report Launch 2021. The launch gave our observers the opportunity to share their observation of the activities that occurred during the voting day at their respective voting stations. The launch was also an opportunity for DDP to provide a comprehensive report to the representatives of the IEC about the trends and challenges that occurred on voting day. DDP is proud to continue encouraging people to become observers and to play a role in protecting integrity in our country’s elections.
