Engaging young people in civic education can result in an increased understanding and interest among young people in civic and political affairs that can foster active citizenship. This can contribute to social wellbeing at an individual level, by building self-esteem and a sense of empowerment, and bring about important benefits for societies such as increased awareness for common challenges and a joint commitment to identify solutions that work in the long run. Ultimately, it also benefits society as a whole by reinforcing positive civic behavior.

Against this background, DDP in partnership with Empowering Youth, an organization based in Pietermaritzburg, hosted a Civic Education and Local Government dialogue at the George Town Library in  PMB on the 4th February 2022. The dialogue was facilitated by DDP Associate facilitator Njabulo Togane.
