DDP Partner and Associate Facilitator, Njabulo Togane at the UMsunduzi Mayoral Engagement in PMB.

DDP in partnership with Empowering Youth hosted a youth mayoral engagement at the Eastwood Community Hall in Pietermaritzburg. This event was held on the 11th of March 2022. The conversation was led by Thobani Zikalala, Sphamandla Mhlongo, and Shakespear Baleni.

Msunduzi Youth Mayoral Engagement is an engagement that is aimed at holding a safe and robust conversation between the leadership of the Msunduzi municipality and the youth of Msunduzi municipality to unpack challenges that young people of the municipality experience daily and to co-create solutions that could bring hope and positive change in their lives. The municipality needs to shift towards a direction of engaging, equipping, and empowering the youth as this will yield positive results towards the development and sustainability of young people who would contribute to the development of our societies. Youth participation remains a fundamental tool in creating a youth-inclusive society whereby young people participate with self-confidence in their development.

Youth participation can also be improved through several approaches, such as capacity building and engagement projects like this one. To encourage active participation in the city of choice, it is therefore in this nature that we seek to create that conducive platform for and by young people.
