The Democracy Development Program in partnership with the Open Society Foundation SA and Developing Youth hosted a dialogue with the youth in Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas. This dialogue was guided by the theme of the project (promoting youth political participation and engagement- reclaiming a youth-friendly democracy) looking to enhance youth participation in the upcoming 2024 Provincial and National Government Elections, educating the youth about the National Development Plan, Independent Development Plan and various community structures which exist at a community level that young people can actively participate in. It explored different channels that the youth can use to achieve socio-economic growth through the National Youth Development Agency.
The dialogues project objective was to engage young people on how they can meaningfully contribute towards achieving a youth-friendly democracy by participating in all available democratic processes of this country. It is also to give young people an opportunity to engage with a stakeholder such as the NYDA, which has available opportunities for the youth to achieve socio-economic growth. The indicator for this dialogue was to invite young people of uMngeni Municipality with a representation from all wards, to engage on this topic at hand and explore how they meaningfully contribute to the democracy development of this country.
This dialogue was held at Howick West community hall on 21 April 2022 and was facilitated by Wiseman Dlamini.
