The Democracy Development Program in partnership with My Vote Counts hosted a People’s hearing on the future of the South African electoral systems at The Station in Durban on the 2nd November 2022. This hearing forms part of a series of hearings and a civil society call for public participation in the flawed electoral amendment bill process that is underway in parliament.
The main purpose of these hearings is to engage communities and social movements on elections and electoral politics considering parliament’s flawed public participation process.
Janet Love, Vice-Chairperson of the IEC, Dr. Sithembile Mbete, lecture at the University of Pretoria, and My Vote count’s Letlhogonolo Letshele gave presentations on various topics in relation to the amendment bill.
