As part of the activities of the Sisonke in Democracy Project, on the 26th of July 2023, DDP hosted an Inception Workshop. An inception workshop held at the DDP Training and Meeting Room targeted the project team and selected representatives of both African migrant and community leaders from the three townships – KwaMakhutha, KwaMashu, and Isipingo.
This one day provided its participants with an overview of the project, its activities, and the expected results. It was delivered by the DDP Executive Director, Paul Kariuki gave a brief background on the project and the purpose of the workshop. He highlighted the importance of educating community leaders and duty-bearers on democracy and human rights for all.
The Project Manager, Gugu Madonsela gave an overview of the projects. This included timelines, activities, and roles and responsibilities of each person involved. She further explained the expected outcomes, for the participants to better understand how they are going to contribute to the success of the project and its intended goals.
An inception Workshop successfully achieved its objective which was to ensure that, the project team, representatives of the African migrant community, and community leaders from host communities have enhanced their understanding of the project and increased their capacity to execute their respective roles and responsibilities related to the project.
