As part of the activities of the Advancing Community Voices Project, on 19 October 2023, DDP hosted a 1-day capacity building Workshop. This workshop was held at the Edward Hotel in Durban and targeted the project team CSOs and community radio stations.
The content of the workshop was structured in an interactive manner that ensured optimal feedback from the participants. The delegates were challenged to discuss in groups questions that seek to understand what it means to be a South African, what ought to be the components that inform how we craft identity, and how this can be aligned to create national policies.
To achieve this ideal, the project will adopt a multi-method approach using a combination of mechanisms to educate, mobilize, and activate citizens through:
- Capacity-building workshops
- Community transformational dialogues
- Citizen education through radio talk shows
- Citizens’ engagement with the duty bearers (government leaders, and representatives of various strategic government agencies such as the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
