Our impact

At the Democracy Development Program (DDP), we are dedicated to deepening the practice of democracy in South Africa. Since our inception in 1993, we have been committed to building strong and active communities that hold those in power accountable. Our work spans various sectors, including political parties, civil society, women in parliament, media, and capacity-building initiatives.

Engaging with Political Parties

We facilitate constructive dialogue between political parties to promote peaceful and democratic processes. Our forums and workshops provide a platform for political leaders to engage with citizens and address pressing issues.

Strengthening Civil Society

Our initiatives empower civil society organizations to advocate for their communities effectively. Through training and support, we help these organizations build their capacity to influence policy and drive social change.

Empowering Women in Parliament

We are proud to support women members of parliament through conferences and workshops designed to enhance their leadership skills and influence. Our programs aim to increase women's representation and participation in political processes.

Media Conferences and Capacity Building

Our media conferences bring together journalists, editors, and media professionals to discuss the role of media in democracy. We also offer capacity-building initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of media practitioners, ensuring they can report accurately and responsibly.

Community Engagement and Education

We believe in the power of education to foster active citizenship. Our democracy education programs and community engagement activities encourage citizens to participate in public life and hold their leaders accountable.
