Prof. Nomkhosi Gama Xulu
Professor Nomkhosi Gama Xulu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cape Town (UCT). She holds a BSocSc from the University of Natal, an Honours and PGDip in Higher Education from UKZN, an MA in Social Sciences from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg, Germany, and a PhD from UCT. A Fulbright scholar and Global Studies Program alumna, she has held academic and research positions at UKZN, Durban University of Technology, and the Chris Hani Institute.
At UCT, she convenes the PhD program in Sociology and contributes to faculty transformation and student advising. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Introduction to Sociology, Social Justice and Inequality, and Social Theory and Sociological Analysis Today. She is also a co-editor of the South African Review of Sociology and an Honorary Research Associate at DUT.
Her publications include the monograph Hostels in South Africa: Spaces of Perplexity (2017) and the co-edited volume Migration in Southern Africa (2022).
