Prof. Vivian B. Ojong

Professor Vivian Besem Ojong is a Professor of Anthropology and the current Dean of Research for the College of Humanities at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Zululand. Her research focuses on gender, migration, African feminism, identity politics, culture, and globalization in African contexts. Professor Ojong has held several leadership roles, including Dean and Head of the School of Social Sciences. She co-edited Researching the “New Normal” Social World (2023) and co-authored Identity and Belonging: The African Others in South Africa (2024). Renowned for her mentorship and advocacy for women in academia, she continues to promote transformative, socially responsive scholarship across African and global studies.
