Msunduzi Municipality team with the DDP Team at PMB City Hall after a successful public forum on ward committees.

The Democracy Development Program (DDP), in collaboration with the Msunduzi Municipality, hosted a Public Forum at the prestigious Pietermaritzburg City Hall on Friday, April 5, 2024; this event was an enlightening discussion on the crucial role of ward committees in enhancing public participation.

Ward committees serve as the cornerstone of democracy at the grassroots level, acting as a bridge between communities and local government. At this forum, we will delve into how these committees play a vital role in ensuring that Integrated Development Planning (IDP), municipal budgeting, disaster management, and other essential functions are aligned with the genuine needs and aspirations of citizens.

Through engaging presentations, insightful panel discussions, and interactive sessions, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the mechanisms through which ward committees empower communities to voice their concerns, influence decision-making processes, and drive meaningful change.
