uMngeni Municipality Youth Indaba Theme: Enhancing Voices and Accountability Through Citizens, Advocacy Social Activism
The Democracy Development Program, in partnership with uMngeni Local Municipality and the uMngeni Unemployed Graduates Forum, hosted the Youth Indaba, a transformative event aimed at empowering young minds and fostering a culture of accountability and active citizenship. Under the theme "Enhancing Voices and Accountability Through Citizens and Advocacy Social Activism," this gathering sought to inspire the youth to take charge of their future and advocate for positive change within their communities.
The event, held on 20 March 2025 at the Howick West Community Hall, was a vibrant and engaging platform for young people to voice their concerns, share their ideas, and learn from experienced advocates and activists. Facilitated by the dynamic Ms. Buhlebuyeza Motsemme, the Indaba featured a series of interactive sessions, workshops, and discussions designed to equip participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to become effective agents of change.
Throughout the day, attendees were encouraged to explore the various facets of social activism, from grassroots organizing to leveraging digital platforms for advocacy. The sessions emphasized the importance of accountability, transparency, and active participation in the democratic process. Participants left the event with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of their role in shaping a more just and equitable society.
The Youth Indaba was not just an event; it was a call to action. It underscored the power of collective voices and the impact of informed and engaged citizens. By fostering a culture of accountability and advocacy, the Democracy Development Program and uMngeni Local Municipality are paving the way for a brighter future, driven by the passion and commitment of the youth.
