Delegates at the multiparty workshop at Elangeni

The Democracy Development Programme hosted a workshop titled: A Reflection on the State of South African Coalitions: Building for 2024. The workshop aimed to take a deep dive into the state of coalitions in South Africa, particularly about the successes, challenges, and prospects for building stable coalitions after the 2024 general elections. – Increase the organization’s understanding of local government

Some of the most important topics we will be unpacking include:

  • What are coalitions?
  • Why do countries enter into coalitions?
  • Why are some coalitions successful and some fail?
  • What factors influence political parties in coalitions?
  • What is the role of community leaders in coalitions?
  • What is the state of coalitions in South Africa?
  • What would be the state of coalitions in a national government?

The workshop targeted political party members and representatives and was facilitated by Prof. Isaac Khambule.
