Empowering Voices: Highlights from the Women’s Conference 2025

The Women’s Conference, held on August 7, 2025, at Phindangene Hall in Impendle, in collaboration with the Impendle Local Municipality, was a transformative gathering of women leaders, community activists, and stakeholders. United under the theme “SHE Leads: Women Driving Economic Development and Social Change in Local Communities in KZN,” the event aimed to inspire and empower.

The day commenced with a warm welcome from Cllr Ndlovu from the Municipality, setting a positive tone for the proceedings. Ms. Buhlebuyeza Motsemme, a DDP Associate Facilitator, outlined the purpose of the conference, emphasizing the importance of empowerment and collaboration among women. Hlanganani Mnikathi from the Impendle Municipality acknowledged the presence of esteemed guests, reinforcing the significance of the event.

The highlight of the morning was an inspiring keynote address by Ms. Mandy Chili, also a DDP Associate Facilitator. She spoke passionately about the transformative role of women in local development, illustrating how their leadership can drive economic growth and foster social change.

Following the keynote, Zamasomi Msomi from NOLUTHUSO NPO delivered a thought-provoking presentation on women’s leadership, activism, and participation in local government. Her insights sparked lively discussions among attendees, who engaged in question-and-answer sessions and group discussions, facilitating a meaningful exchange of ideas and collective learning.

The conference also featured stakeholder presentations from various departments, including the Department of Social Development, the Department of Agriculture, Mgungundlovu District Municipality, and the Department of Economic Development. These sessions provided valuable resources and insights to support women's initiatives in the region.

The event underscored the vital role women play in shaping their communities and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration and support.
