Message of Support by DDP's Mbalenhle Mkhize at the 2025 WEEP Workshop – Kokstad Town Hall

On 19 August 2025, the Harry Gwala District hosted a pivotal gathering at Kokstad Town Hall for the Women’s Economic Empowerment Programme (WEEP) Workshop, in partnership with the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) and The Presidency. The event brought together Women-Owned Businesses (WOBs) from across the region to engage in dialogue, capacity building, and strategic networking aimed at advancing women’s economic participation and empowerment.

Representing the Democracy Development Program (DDP), Mbalenhle Mkhize, Partner Liaison and Development Officer, delivered a heartfelt message of support. In her address, Mkhize emphasized the importance of inclusive economic development, highlighting the critical role women play in shaping resilient communities and driving sustainable growth.

She commended the collaborative efforts between government and civil society, noting that platforms like WEEP are essential for amplifying women’s voices, fostering entrepreneurship, and ensuring that women-owned businesses are not only supported but celebrated. Drawing from her extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and program coordination, Mkhize reaffirmed DDP’s commitment to empowering women through dialogue, education, and strategic partnerships.

Her message resonated with the workshop’s theme, reinforcing the belief that economic empowerment is a cornerstone of democratic participation. She encouraged attendees to continue advocating for their rightful place in the economy and to leverage opportunities that promote equity, innovation, and leadership.

The event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing journey toward gender-inclusive development in the Harry Gwala District and beyond.
