SJI Inception Workshop

DDP hosted an Inception workshop on 18 February 2025 at the DDP Seminar Room. The workshop aimed to mobilize citizens and civil society for active participation in elections as voters and observers, and to strengthen civil society's capabilities in creating a united network of organizations working on voter mobilization and election observation. This initiative is particularly focused on the lead-up to the 2026 Local Government elections. The event was fully funded by the Social Justice Initiative.

The significance of this project lies in deepening and strengthening democracy by ensuring active citizen participation in decision-making processes. By educating, mobilizing, and activating citizens through various mechanisms such as capacity-building workshops, community dialogues, and radio talk shows, the project aims to develop an informed citizenry and enhance civil society's capacity to undertake electoral responsibilities confidently. The intended outcomes include a confident civil society network advocating for better election management and good governance, demanding accountability from public officials in KwaZulu Natal, and equipping community media with tools for factual and balanced reporting ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.
